May 26, 2012 A Marquette University said Friday that she planned on producing an animated web series this fall. The YouTube series would help all incoming freshman students from any university with their first year of college. The series would also show minority students what issues they could face at a predominantly white institution. Casby Bias, a junior in the Diederich College of Communication, said she thought of the idea the first semester of her sophomore year. The "Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl" series helped her proceed with the dream. "I think making a series would be cool," Bias said. "I could give it a journalistic twist, too, like my current blog."

By Casby Bias May 26, 2012 A young girl slammed her family’s car door into a woman’s Honda vehicle, a college student said Saturday at a local Sam's Club. The college student said future fines and injustice would’ve been on the innocent owner of the Honda for the “hit-and-run” incident. Casby Bias, junior at Marquette University and daughter of the Honda possesser, talked more about the event. "I felt a bump, and turned my head around to a little girl, grinning at me," Bias said. "I was like, ‘The heck?’" An older woman then came over, joined the girl in the passenger’s seat, looked straight at Bias and pulled the door to the red truck shut. The family left damages – a side mirror on the Honda in an outward position – as they were. No serious harm came to the car. But Bias wrote down the red truck’s license plate just in case. "I'm sure (she) did," J. Bias, the mother of the college student, said and rolled her eyes. By Casby Bias May 24, 2012 A 19-year-old college student found out Thursday that she obtained another internship next to the one with the Harley-Davidson Company. Most students in college can’t even find one job or internship during the summer. The second internship opportunity with INROADS, a non-profit internship organization, would help any student with networking, interviewing skills and would provide a mentor. Casby Bias, a journalism major from Marquette University, responded to the new opportunity she obtained. “Wait, what…” she said. "So... I have to work two jobs now, how is that possible..." Further explanation of the INROADS opportunity as a personal-development program caused a different reaction. "Yay!" Bias said. By Casby Bias
May 19, 2012 Passengers got more information than they needed Saturday from a city-bus driver. The driver said sorry to riders for his "pit stop" at a KFC by Congress and Fond Du Lac. Bus drivers usually don’t halt for personal reasons. The driver apologized to each passenger before his or her stop. "That sandwich I had earlier didn’t agree with me," the driver said. Casby Bias, a college student from Marquette University and traveler on the bus, said that she thought the driver went in for food. But his future and private explanation replaced her anger with disgust. "(Why) the heck would he tell us all that," Bias said. By Casby Bias
May 18, 2012 A college student wondered Friday if a book she planned on publishing one day would be considered appropriate. The student said that her personal writing suprised and embarrassed local family and friends in the past. "My late grandpa once asked if he could read my family-reunion journal," Bias said. "His eyes nearly bulged out." She said that she worried about similar reactions from readers: even if it may rid of her present "shy girl" image. "I don’t want to have a lack of support all because of my true feelings about issues and people," Bias said. By Casby Bias
May 17, 2012 A five-minute city bus chase angered a Marquette University student Thursday in downtown Milwaukee. Casby Bias, a journalism major in the Diederich College of Communication, said that people shouldn't trust public transportation. The bus driver may drive past its required stop: even if people clearly stand by the bus sign. Bias ran after one city bus shouting, "Freakin' bus, stop." She said two blocks of running caused her to get tired. "Don't judge me," Bias said. Bias then boarded another city bus that followed a block behind. That bus’s driver even tried helping her out. "The bus driver honked a lot at that other bus," Bias said. "I thought the bus slowed down, so I naïvely got off." But the bus she tried getting on continued onward: Bias stopped running and looked for a bus ride home instead. "I hate the bus," Bias said. By Casby Bias
May 8, 2012 Marquette University students witnessed hearing a female student's unique laugh Tuesday in Cobeen Dining Hall. People usually carry a varied laugh. But the gun-shot chuckle helped out with a stressful exam week, students said. Lynn Bias, a sophomore student, agreed. She also said she thought the noise sounded like a donkey at first. "But I looked up and the girl had a smile on her face: her chest was moving up and down," she said. Students stared at the female student and shared a laugh of their own before returning back to their lunches. By Casby Bias
May 6, 2012 Marquette University families watched as a student carried a beer-can action figure Sunday out of Schroeder Hall. The Keystone Light beer figure represented a drink that students not over the age of 21 couldn't legally consume. But the female felt comfortable publicly transporting the item out of the building during dorm-move-out week. Parents, who usually condemn drinking from their children, smiled and laughed at the event. But Casby Bias, a sophomore journalism major at the Diederich College of Communication, said the parents didn’t respond correctly. “All the parents did was smile toward the girl,” she said. “I don’t know why, but it was so inappropriate.” |
